Men who wanted to deal with the clocks carried those from the Black Forest in their traditionel knickerbockers to the customers' doorstep, in the whole world. With a fully packed "Uhrenkräze" (special racks) they were marching almost everyday more then 15 hours, 16 up to 25 kilometers.
From their long marches they came back home with new ideas and desires of the world. On their trip they also made clock repairs.
Over the years a real clock trading was organized into the wide world: France Italy, Spain, Portugal, Hungary and Transylvania, England, Scotland and even Russia. It was well known that the dealers had quite a lot of cash in their pocket. So some tours ended in a very tragic way because some of them even have been killed on their way.
Today in the Black Forest they buy back their old clocks from various countries and lovingly restore these painted clocks.
